Protect your investment and ensure your carpets warranty stays valid. [Jordan McLeod](https://www.signaturecarpetcleaning.ca/blog/author/jordan-mcleod) Sep 10, 2026 --- Carpet warranties give you peace of mind and protect your new flooring investment. But to make sure your warranty stays valid, it's not just about vacuuming regularly or avoiding spills. Explore the world of carpet warranties—learn about wear, defects, stain protection, and the importance of maintenance for valid warranties.   ### **Different Types of Carpet Warranties** Each warranty type has very specific terms and conditions. Read them carefully to understand what’s covered and what isn’t. Some manufacturers specify the "level of use" they cover for a carpet. This varies by warranty but usually includes foot traffic, pets, stairs, sunlight exposure, and furniture weight. - **Wear:** This type of warranty covers you if your carpet starts falling apart on its own, with sections coming loose from the floor. - **Manufacture Defects:** This warranty deals with the carpet's quality and construction, including issues like delamination or seam separation. - **Stain Protection:** Stain warranties are all about guarding against tough stains, often covering professional stain removal. - **High Traffic/Extra Wear and Tear:** Regular maintenance like vacuuming and spot cleaning minor stains are very important. Your warranty won’t be valid if your carpet is prematurely worn out from excess wear and tear. If your carpet looks worn in busy areas, the manufacturer might not cover this under their warranty. Carpet warranties often don’t cover matting and crushing, which happen when the carpet’s yarn gets compressed from heavy traffic. To avoid this, make sure your carpet has good padding and follow the manufacturer's cleaning guidelines.   ### **Professional Carpet Cleaning to Keep the Warranty Valid** In order for your carpet’s warranty to remain valid, you’ll likely[need regular carpet cleanings.](https://www.signaturecarpetcleaning.ca/blog/how-often-should-you-professionally-clean-your-carpets-for-optimal-health) We recommend getting a professional cleaning every 14-18 months to remove dirt, allergens, and stubborn stains that regular vacuuming can't handle. If your home has a lot of foot traffic, pets, or family members with allergies, it's a good idea to clean more often, like every 8-12 months. Your warranty will tell you how often a professional cleaning is needed.   ### **Other Tips** You need to keep records of your carpet cleanings as evidence that you've followed the manufacturer's maintenance rules. When you hire a [professional carpet cleaning service](https://www.signaturecarpetcleaning.ca/services/carpet-cleaning), ask for a detailed invoice that includes the date of service, the cleaning method used, and the technician's information. Don’t forget to keep track of the original proof of purchase for your carpet as well. Register your warranty on the manufacturer’s website. Since warranties vary by manufacturer and carpet type, it's important to understand what is and isn't covered. Misunderstandings are common; for instance, your idea of "wear" might differ from the manufacturer’s definition. Your carpet warranty isn't just a document; it's a guarantee for your long-lasting and attractive flooring investment. By grasping the significance of clean carpets and the elements that keep your warranty strong, you can maintain its integrity. So, don't forget to keep your carpets tidy, promptly deal with dirt and stains, and think about getting professional cleaning annually.
